New Resource: Small and Rural Communities Climate Action Guidebook

Came across a new resource for small to medium size municipalities and wanted to share as this could be of benefit to small and rural communities using the Green Communities Guide. This resource mentions several topics that can be found in more detail in the Green Communities Guide:

  • definition of ecosystem services under land use
  • mention of municipal policy addressing: climate change mitigation, naturalization, protection of natural asset polices including ecosystem services and biodiversity, complete communities and active transportation, including integration and connectivity of trail systems. Municipalities can also review existing land use planning policies that may present constraints to naturalization and reforestation/afforestation efforts
  • mention of density bonusing under land use
  • mention of soil conservation & carbon sequestration in agriculture
  • mention of urban forest management strategies under natural resource development

NBS is more cost-effective and often better at attenuating climate impacts than conventional engineering solutions
