Town of Olds Introduces New Approach to Greenspace Management

The Town of Olds is taking a forward-looking step towards sustainability with a new approach to greenspace management. The municipality plans to convert select public spaces into naturalized landscapes using native grasses and wildflowers to reduce frequent maintenance requirements and irrigation. This shift will help support ecological resilience and create habitats for pollinators, birds and other wildlife.

This initiative reflects a broader movement toward rethinking how urban greenspaces are designed and maintained. By embracing naturalization, Olds is not only conserving municipal resources - it's enhancing local biodiversity and setting an example for other communities across Alberta. This project is a reminder that small, local changes in land management can have wide-reaching environmental benefits.
